Our Conclusion: The Drive Medical Duet Transport Chair/Rollator Walker is perfect for the needs of just about any senior. It’s lightweight and perfect for indoor and outdoor use. However, no feature is more impressive than the ability to quickly turn the rollator into a safe, stable transport chair!
Features of Drive Duet Transport Chair
Two Chairs in One
Make no mistake, this is the best feature of the Drive Duet, and one of the best features in the entire rollator market! With just two simple steps, you can convert the Duet from a rollator walker into a transport chair/wheelchair! Normal rollators are only meant to be used as walkers or seats; being pushed by someone in a rollator is rather foolish. The Duet earns its name because it can easily become a wheelchair, so you can be pushed in both comfort and safety!
First, remove the backrest from the rollator (this happens with the touch of a button) and attach it to the other side. This is important not only for comfort while being pushed; it also keeps the two swiveling wheels in front no matter what mode of use! That adds stability and safety to the chair.
Second, flip open the footrest and armrests. These, too, are unlocked/locked in place with a button, so they’re very easy to use. Now, you’re ready to be pushed wherever you need to go! You won’t be able to push yourself as you would with a traditional wheelchair; that’s why the name “transport chair” is a bit more accurate.
This versatility is incredibly valuable; now, you don’t have to choose between a rollator or wheelchair. Nor do you need to have two different devices or switch between them; you can get one chair that does double duty. This saves you money, space, and headaches for years to come!
8-Inch Indoor/Outdoor Wheels
This is always a welcome feature on a rollator walker; it gives you more freedom over the places you’re able to go without risking a fall; rollators are the best mobility aid for avoiding falls while out and about. Taller wheels provide greater stability and impact absorption. When using the Duet in transport chair mode, this feature is even more helpful!
When you’re walking outdoors with the Duet, you can have confidence that you won’t be limited to just sidewalks and concrete. You can go just about anywhere you like! The entire purpose of a mobility aid is to help you retain your independence and freedom; large indoor/outdoor wheels go a long way to accomplishing that!
Spacious Underseat Storage
Almost every rollator has a storage area under the seat, but they are often far too small. The Drive Duet transport chair/rollator walker has a zippered bag underneath the seat that will be able to store almost anything you need for the day!
Having a nice amount of under-seat storage isn’t just convenient- it helps keep you safe! Carrying things in your hands, over your shoulders, or in a backpack while using a rollator walker can be dangerous and lead to pulled muscles or falls.
Easy Folding/Locking
The Drive Duet can fold up nearly flat, so you can store it in your home or car easily. It also locks in the open/folded positions easily, so you’ll never risk the chair collapsing while you’re walking or sitting in it. Most chairs that fold will lock into place when they’re open, but not when they’re folded shut. This model, however, will lock shut so that you also won’t have to worry about it expanding on you while you’re trying to lift it and put it in the car!
Large Seat and High Weight Capacity
Neither the seat size nor the weight capacity of the Drive Duet is the best in the world, but they’re both worth mentioning. The standard seat size on most rollators- especially cheaper ones- is 10” X 10” or 10” X 12”. The seat on the Drive Duet is just a bit bigger: 13” X 13.5”. That, admittedly, isn’t a massive jump. However, it is significant enough that you’ll notice the difference in both comfort and stability while sitting!
The 300-pound weight capacity isn’t exactly anything to write home about either, but it is stronger than the average 250-pound limit of other rollators. Even if you’re not a particularly heavy person, it’s nice to have that kind of strength. It helps seniors feel more stable and secure in their rollators, giving them the confidence to safely go anywhere!

Pros and Cons of Drive Duet Transport Chair
PROS
- Dual Functions: Make no mistake, this is the absolute best feature of this rollator. In just a few minutes, your rollator can turn into a functioning transport chair. This versatility is virtually impossible to beat!
- Relatively Light: Some rollators weigh less, but 20 pounds is certainly on the lighter side. Couple that with the 8-inch wheels, and you’ve got a walker that is easy for anyone to maneuver and push!
- No-Tool Assembly: Right out of the box, the Drive Duet is almost ready to go. Just insert the handlebars and backrest (they’ll click into position), and your rollator/transport chair is completely assembled!
CONS
- Must be Slow When Using as Transport Chair: The Drive Duet, when it’s used as a transport chair/wheelchair, is pretty good. The only drawback is that you must push or be pushed slowly. Walking too fast means that any bumps in the pavement could result in the person being tipped out of the chair. It just isn’t as stable as a full-sized wheelchair, but it’s perfectly safe if you take your time!
- Not Suitable for Taller Users: This rollator’s handlebars extend up to a height of 37 inches. This means it can be used by anyone up to about 6’2”; if you’re taller, you may find it uncomfortable to use this rollator.
Who the Drive Duet Transport Chair is Best For?
This rollator walker is perfect for people who are getting older and have limited mobility, as well as people who need a mobility aid for recovery or rehabilitation. It doesn’t function much differently than any other rollator; it’s easy to push, stable, and lightweight.
But, seniors who are reaching that 75+ age range will likely benefit greatly from being able to be pushed when they need it. Rollator walkers are great mobility aids, but when you are tired, sore, or otherwise more limited than you would normally be, it’s nice to have the transport chair option.
Likewise, people who are recovering/rehabilitating from surgery or injury will love being able to use both modes of the Drive Duet. It’s much better than having to purchase and use two separate devices!
Other Mobility Aids to Consider
Curious about what else is out there? There are many great rollators in a similar price range, with similar features. Keep in mind, though, that the Drive Duet is one-of-a-kind in terms of dual functionality; no other rollator can safely be used as a transport chair!
1. Medline Empower Rollator Walker
The Empower is one of the most comfortable and versatile rollators on the market. It’s perfect for people who need to rest often, such as those with COPD, sciatic pain, and seniors with joint issues.
It’s lightweight and the seat/backrest is very plush. If you’re looking for a rollator you can take on long trips with superior comfort, the Empower is for you!
2. Medline Ultralight Transport Chair
If you’re thinking that a transport chair might serve your needs better than a rollator, this convenient model might be perfect for you! Similar to the Drive Duet, it’s got a high weight capacity, it’s easy to fold, and it weighs less than 15 pounds!
It’s also got desk-length armrests, making it convenient for use at work and the dinner table.
3. Drive Medical Four-Wheel Walker
This model from Drive Medical is extremely basic; it’s well-suited for temporary needs or just the person who doesn’t like to have anything fancy. It’s versatile and easy to use, but the real advantage is that it costs one-third the amount that other rollators do!
If you’re looking for something simple and affordable, this is a quality option you should consider!
Conclusion: Drive Duet Transport Chair
This is an ideal mobility aid for recovery, rehabilitation, and daily use- anyone can benefit from the Drive Duet. If you’re looking for a versatile and helpful mobility aid, this could be it!
