By Maurice

heating grants for the elderly

You’ve come to the right place if you’re looking for heating grants for the elderly. Here, you will learn about three different ways to obtain heating grants.

Heating Grants for Elderly – Federal & Local Government Programs

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps keep families safe and healthy through initiatives that assist families with energy costs.

Weatherization Assistance Program

WAP enables low-income families to permanently reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient. Contact your state’s weatherization administrator to obtain heating grants.

Many Local governments also run heat grants programs for seniors. For example, SENIORS SAVE is a program by the city of Boston to help income-eligible seniors replace their failing or inefficient heating systems. Similarly, Alabama’s Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded grants totaling $2.9 million to assist low-income and elderly Alabama residents with weatherizing their homes to lower energy costs.

Heating Grants for Elderly – Charities

Feel the Love

Feel The Love gives neighbors and participating Lennox dealers an opportunity to come together, give back and improve the lives of deserving people in their communities. They provide free heating & cooling systems to people in need.

EnergyCare (St. Louis, MO)

EnergyCare’s mission is to protect low-income, home-bound individuals, particularly the elderly, as well as seriously ill or physically disabled adults and children, from the risks of illness, hospitalization, or even death caused by extreme summer heat or winter cold. They install home weatherization materials, set up portable heaters and electric blankets, or simply give out standard blankets for immediate warmth. For the heat, they install window air conditioners.

Catholic Charities

Various Catholic Charities chapters collaborate with local non-profits to provide heating and cooling systems. Contact your local chapter. One example is free air conditioners from Catholic Charities NY.

Heating Grants for Elderly – Utility Providers

Many utility companies have programs to help people with paying bills.

UniSource Energy Customer Assistance Residential Energy Support (CARES) program offers monthly discounts for low-income customers who need help paying their gas or electric bills.

Southwest Gas customers get a discount on their gas bill between November 1 and April 30.

Arizona Public Service (APS) customers will provide you with a discount of up to 65% off of your electric bill.

Check with your utility provider to see if they have a similar program

  1. Way does a person have to be destitute before someone will help them? If you have one flat tire doesn’t it make more sense to fix that one flat then to wait until your car is on blocks. I know when I have reached my limit and need help. I am an older person and have yet to have any senior organization provide he!p. My name has been on a waiting list to have my grass cut for two years !!! I no longer donate to any of these organizations and vote against any millage supporting them. I managed to get quite a few other people to also vote against these millages. How can do many
senior organizations over look one person? I could see it as a compliment, I really don’t need help, at least that’s how I must come across. Thank you for nothing.
