Free Wheelchairs & Assistive Devices in Nebraska
Assistive Technology Partnership
The Assistive Technology Partnership has assisted Nebraskans with disabilities, their families, educators, service coordinators, employers and a host of agencies to learn about and use assistive technology. ATP is a state agency in the Department of Education. They have many programs such as ReUse Network; with the help of volunteers from the ReUse Network, 1,559 pounds of assistive devices and medical equipment found new homes. More than 90 individuals are enjoying independence thanks to the devices with an estimated value of more than $17,000.
The Health & Medical Equipment Loan Program (HELP) began loaning medical equipment because most everyone, at some time in their lives, needs access to assistive devices like bath chairs, crutches, wheelchairs, and hospital beds. The program can be utilized whether you have a short-term need to recover from an illness or longer-term needs for individuals living with a physical disability. The equipment may be used for as short as a weekend or as long as up to 1 year. Loans are renewable if the equipment is needed longer than a year. A low processing fee is charged for each item.
Independence Rising is an independent living center that provides information and referral, living skills training, individual and systems advocacy, and peer sharing. They have a durable medical equipment for rent or loan program.
League of Human Dignity
League of Human Dignity has been offering Independent Living services in Lincoln, Lancaster County, and other Southeast Nebraska counties since 1971. They have a lot of services available to help you overcome the barriers in your personal life and in your community. These services include

United Cerebral Palsy of Nebraska
United Cerebral Palsy of Nebraska provides limited grants to qualified families and individuals with disabilities to promote independence and encourage empowerment.
The Client Assistance Grant program helps with things such as purchasing adaptive equipment, removing barriers in the home and providing scholarships for special programs like summer camp, sports programs and training. UCP of Nebraska will also assist in identifying and acquiring other sources of funding. Find the eligibility criteria here.
Great Plains Americans with Disabilities Act Center
For persons with disabilities living in Nebraska, the Great Plains ADA Center provide resources, information, and referrals. Additionally, it assists with securing the support and services for which they’re eligible. Contact your local chapter of the National Network of ADA Centers for guidance on locating and applying for disability grants applicable toward a mobility aid.
Nebraska Statewide Independent Living Council
NESILC’s mission is to promote independence and self-determination for disabled people residing in Nebraska and to fight discrimination against them. Nebraska Area Agencies on Aging
The eight area agencies on aging plan and promote the development, enhancement, and promotion of community services and activities for older persons. Local Agencies are an essential resource for the state’s aging residents. Special emphasis is given to supporting and prolonging independent living through ensuring the right care is provided at the right time.
