1. Assistive Technology Partnership 

The Assistive Technology Partnership has assisted Nebraskans with disabilities, their families, educators, service coordinators, employers and a host of agencies to learn about and use assistive technology. ATP is a state agency in the Department of Education. They have many programs such as ReUse Network; with the help of volunteers from the ReUse Network, 1,559 pounds of assistive devices and medical equipment found new homes. More than 90 individuals are enjoying independence thanks to the devices with an estimated value of more than $17,000.

2. Aging Office of Western Nebraska

Aging Office of Western Nebraska’s mission is to provide a comprehensive and coordinated service delivery system to assist elderly citizens to remain safe and independent in their own home and community.

The AOWN has a limited inventory of durable medical equipment items such as commodes, walkers, bath benches, and other items.  These items can be loaned out at no charge to the elderly for as long as needed.

3. Disabled American Veterans – Omaha

DAV is a nonprofit charity that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families, helping more than 1 million veterans in positive, life-changing ways each year. Annually, the organization provides more than 600,000 rides to veterans attending medical appointments and assists veterans with well over 200,000 benefit claims.

They offer a medical equipment loan program for veterans needing medical equipment.

4. Disabled Persons And Family Support

The Disabled Persons and Family Support (DPFS) Program provides state-funded assistance to persons of all ages who meet certain tests, including income and disability tests. The program helps people with disabilities remain employed, stay independent and live at home.  Eligible individuals may receive funding for specific services, up to $300 a month or $3,600 annually.

5. ALS in the Heartland

Since its founding in 2006, ALS in the Heartland has assisted over 800 individuals with ALS, their families, and caregivers, one by one, to improve their quality of life, provide them with much-needed goods and services, and assist in maintaining their dignity for as long as possible. 

ALS in the Heartland loans or purchases various equipment at no charge, such as mobility items, communication devices, shower/tub chairs, and daily living aids. they also have access to other community resources that loan equipment. 6. First United Methodist Church

7. H.E.L.P 

The Health & Medical Equipment Loan Program (HELP) began loaning medical equipment because most everyone, at some time in their lives, needs access to assistive devices like bath chairs, crutches, wheelchairs, and hospital beds. The program can be utilized whether you have a short-term need to recover from an illness or longer-term needs for individuals living with a physical disability. The equipment may be used for as short as a weekend or as long as up to 1 year. Loans are renewable if the equipment is needed longer than a year. A low processing fee is charged for each item.

8. Independence Rising 

Independence Rising is an independent living center that provides information and referral, living skills training, individual and systems advocacy, and peer sharing. They have a durable medical equipment for rent or loan program.

9. League of Human Dignity

10. United Cerebral Palsy of Nebraska 

United Cerebral Palsy of Nebraska provides limited grants to qualified families and individuals with disabilities to promote independence and encourage empowerment.

The Client Assistance Grant program helps with things such as purchasing adaptive equipment, removing barriers in the home and providing scholarships for special programs like summer camp, sports programs and training. UCP of Nebraska will also assist in identifying and acquiring other sources of funding. Find the eligibility criteria here.

Additionally, it assists with securing the support and services for which they’re eligible.
