What is an Adjustable Bed?

Best Adjustable Beds for Seniors

source

Most beds have a very basic frame that supports either a box spring or a platform. They don’t move or offer much flexibility and can cause lower back pain and discomfort for seniors. Adjustable beds have a moving base powered by motors that can raise and lower different sections of the bed with the mattress and user on top of it.

These beds are becoming very popular across all age groups and needs. They let you sleep in your preferred position, and even relax comfortably as you read or watch tv in bed. Many seniors choose to get an adjustable bed for health reasons, and many others get them simply for the luxurious and convenient experience they offer!

Common Types of Adjustable Beds

Adjustable beds come in one of four categories and are usually available in any size except twin. The different types of adjustable beds that you will come across are standard, “head tilt”, wall-hugger, split king, and split queenMany times, these “categories” can be combined and included into one bed. Most of the time, unless you have a top-dollar budget, you’ll find them listed in one of these four ways:

Standard Adjustable Beds

source

The least expensive and least-featured, standard adjustable beds can raise the head and leg sections of the bed about 60 and 45 degrees, respectively. Most of the time, you will also get a massage function that will vibrate under your back or legs.

Standard adjustable beds aren’t overly flashy, but they still offer a great deal of comfort and convenience to seniors when compared with a traditional bed. Plus, they’re a great way for people without much of a budget to enjoy the relaxation and benefits adjustable beds provide.

Your adjustable bed (of any kind) will come with one or two remotes that control each of the bed’s functions and even includes a flashlight option for getting around in the dark. Many beds, even less expensive ones, also have soft lights installed under the base that gently light up the floor. This gives you just enough light to move around in the dark to visit the restroom or get a drink of water; it’s a lot like the lights on the floor of a movie theater!

If you think you’d like to get an adjustable bed, but don’t need or can’t afford any of the more expensive models, a standard adjustable bed is perfect for you. Compared to a traditional mattress and box springs, the difference in your sleep and energy will still be very noticeable.

Head-Tilting Adjustable Beds

source

These beds include an additional point of articulation, right where your head rests. It will raise your head by just a few degrees, making it more comfortable for certain people’s sleeping and reclining positions.

Because this requires additional hardware, head-tilt features don’t come cheap. Typically, they’ll add around $200 or more to the cost of the bed. With that expense, though, comes significant relief for certain seniors. Head-tilt adjustable beds are a great way to relieve nighttime disturbances for people who snore, have sleep apnea, or acid reflux. Elevating the head is a simple but surprisingly effective way to help seniors with these issues sleep soundly through the night.

Wall-Hugging Adjustable Beds

source

Adjustable beds are great for relaxing or reclining, but the less-expensive models have one significant drawback. When you have them set to a reclining or zero-gravity position, your head and torso are lifted up and drawn away from the wall. This makes you feel like you’re in a much smaller room and keeps you far away from your nightstands. The “wall-hugger” category solves that problem.

These adjustable beds do exactly what their name implies; they keep your head right next to the wall as it would be on a flat traditional bed. This helps you feel like you’re making the most of the space available in your bedroom and keeps you within arm’s reach of the water, medicine, and other things you need close by.

Split King Adjustable Beds

source

When you start to shop for an adjustable bed, you’ll notice that, in addition to the normal “twin, full, queen, king” size options, there is something called a “split king”. This is an option that is more or less unique to adjustable beds. These beds use two separate base pieces to form a full king-size bed; each side of the bed can function independently from the other.

This gives you the option to choose the sleeping position that is ideal for you without disturbing or inconveniencing your spouse. They, too, can relax and watch TV or read while you sleep on your side of the bed. This lets both people who use the bed have the freedom to enjoy their own unique sleeping position and nighttime routine without disturbing the other!

Split king beds give couples one more benefit that is quite hard to ignore. If you or your spouse is a loud snorer, the non-snorer in the bed can adjust their partner’s sleeping position without having to wake them up! If you know the pain of waking up to loud snores in the middle of the night, this benefit speaks for itself!

Benefits of Adjustable Beds for Seniors

Adjustable beds come in one of four categories and are usually available in any size except twin. The different types of adjustable beds that you will come across are standard, “head tilt”, wall-hugger, and king split. Many times, these “categories” can be combined and included into one bed. Most of the time, unless you have a top-dollar budget, you’ll find them listed in one of these four ways:

Back Pain

If you experience back pain, and especially if you wake up in the morning feeling sore and stiff, your bed could be the culprit. As you age, your body’s needs and preferences tend to change a bit. Add to that a possible history of manual labor or a few serious injuries, and you’ll understand why millions of people have chronic back pain, with many of them being seniors.

While an adjustable bed isn’t the perfect solution to chronic back pain, you would be surprised how much better you’ll feel by switching to a bed and sleeping position that is better for your spine. Experts say that feeling comfortable is extremely important while sleeping, and can itself prevent back pain.

On top of that, your bed will come with massage features that will help you loosen and stimulate your back muscles and tendons before bed. It’s a simple luxury that has the potential to make a big difference the next morning. If you suffer from chronic back pain, particularly lower back pain, consider how getting an adjustable bed can help you!

Sleep Apnea and Snoring

Best Pillow for Sleep Apnea

Snoring is mostly thought of as a simple nuisance, but did you know that it can be a sign of something more serious. Sleep apnea isn’t a dangerous medical condition, but it does prevent those who have it from getting restful sleep. If you are a known snorer and often feel fatigued and tired even after a full night of sleep, you should look into whether or not sleep apnea is affecting you.

The simple head elevation that solves snoring problems is also effective at treating sleep apnea. If you have sleep apnea or suspect that you may have it, an adjustable bed might be just what you need to start getting the rest and recharging that your body desperately needs!

Acid Reflux and Heartburn

Nighttime reflux is something that no person likes to deal with. Waking up to intense heartburn and reflux is painful and prevents you from sleeping through the night. If you suffer from severe acid reflux, you know the frustration that comes with nighttime reflux.

Elevating your head while you sleep, however, has been shown to reduce the nighttime reflux of many people and help them sleep deeply through the entire night. In one study, 67% of participants reported that their reflux was abated or reduced enough for them to get a good night of sleep.

Trying to elevate your head and chest on a stack of pillows is one solution, but getting an adjustable bed is a far better one. It will let you customize your sleeping position to the exact right spot and is much more comfortable and stable than a stack of pillows.

If you’re tired of waking up in the middle of the night to chest pain and the need to reach for yet another antacid, consider how getting a high-quality adjustable bed can help you!

Deeper, More Restful Sleep

The majority of seniors likely don’t get enough sleep; the old myth that seniors only need a few hours per night is just that: a myth. Even when seniors do get the appropriate hours of sleep (between 8 and 10 each night), waking up to use the restroom, pain, and general restlessness can prevent that sleep from being effective.

There are real health dangers that come with not getting enough sleep, just like there are significant benefits that accompany a quality sleep life. When your body is lacking sleep, you will feel tired throughout the day, your brain will feel fuzzy, and you can easily become irritable. On top of that, you will be at increased risk for falls and have a weakened immune system. For all people, but seniors especially, the negative health effects of poor sleep cannot be ignored.

Good sleep, though, reverses all those negative trends and contributes to a more full, energetic daily life. Getting the right amount of high-quality sleep works wonders on your energy levels and mood, letting you take care of your daily tasks and enjoy your free time fully.

Good sleep also improves the immune system, allows bruises and muscle aches to heal, and contributes to mental clarity. Great sleep, perhaps more than any other benefit, is the reason every senior should consider how an adjustable bed might improve their sleep and therefore their waking lives!

Potential Drawbacks of Adjustable Beds for Seniors

Just like anything else, of course, adjustable beds aren’t perfect. They aren’t a health risk, but they do have some drawbacks that you should consider before buying an adjustable bed. If you’re still on the fence about whether or not an adjustable bed is right for you, the following drawbacks should help you decide.

If the drawbacks seem like they’re too big to ignore, it might be better to stick with your traditional bed. If they don’t seem like they’re going to be a real concern, though, you should have full confidence in making the switch to an adjustable bed!

Price

The cost of entry can be pretty high when it comes to getting an adjustable bed. While nearly all people who buy one agree that it is worth the expense, it is understandable that not everyone can afford it. The lowest price you can find an adjustable base for is about $250, and cheap mattresses cost about the same.

If the price is a big barrier for you, you may want to upgrade to a memory foam mattress and keep your old bed frame to save some money! That way, you still get some of the benefits of memory foam, which is better for your back and can still give you deeper sleep than a normal mattress.

Mechanical Issues

It’s one of the unwritten rules of the universe: if you buy something that has moving parts, one day, it will break. No matter how well-made, adjustable beds are not immune to this, and sometimes they do have mechanical issues.

They are relatively rare, but for seniors who can’t fix a malfunctioning bed by themselves, it’s something to consider. Because adjustable beds are very heavy, when they get stuck in position, it can be hard for seniors with limited mobility to troubleshoot issues. If your bed is stuck in a reclining position at bedtime and you cannot fix it, you’re out of a bed!

If you think that you might have a hard time making fixes to the bed because of your medical limitations, and you have no help nearby, you may not feel confident with an adjustable bed. Remember, though, that this should be a minor concern. It is simply one that is worth mentioning nonetheless.

Best Brands of Adjustable Beds

There are a great deal of companies selling adjustable beds, but they aren’t all on equal footing. Here are some of the most trusted adjustable bed brands, companies that offer safe and durable beds for great prices!

Classic Brands

Classic Brands was formed a few decades ago and focuses on providing mattresses that go toe-to-toe with big name brands’ quality, but with better prices. They have a great lineup of adjustable beds in all different sizes and configurations, with their Adjustable Comfort and Twin XL models being very popular.

Even better than that, they have a large range of mattresses that will fit perfectly atop their adjustable bases. You can even purchase many of the beds in a combo package that gets you the adjustable base and the mattress all at once!

Leggett and Platt

This brand has been around for more than 100 years and is known for providing some of the highest-quality products on the market. They have four different lines of adjustable beds that you can choose from, intended to meet every budget.

Leggett and Platt offers quite a few wall-hugging adjustable beds, a feature you can’t find on cheaper companies’ options. If you’re looking for a premium adjustable bed that is still less expensive than the ones you’d find in an overpriced showroom Leggett and Platt is perfect for you!

Dynasty Mattress

Dynasty is another medium-sized manufacturer that makes high-quality mattresses and beds that you likely haven’t heard of. They specialize in comfort, making beds that provide exceptional comfort and relaxation. If you’re looking for a medium-priced adjustable bed that feels every bit as luxurious as the top-of-the-line models, Dynasty Mattress likely has a bed for you.

Reverie

Reverie makes very simple, very durable adjustable beds that are valued by many people for their longevity and no-frills designs. Many of Reverie’s adjustable bed bases lack massage functions, so they aren’t for everyone. If you, however, want the comfort of a minimalistic and long-lasting adjustable bed, choosing a Reverie is a great idea!

Sven & Son

Sven & Son is a premium brand that carries a range of products intended to give you luxurious relaxation and sleep. Their beds are a bit more expensive but still worth the money overall. Also, many Sven & Son models include the coveted “head-tilt” feature that is crucial for good sleep in people who have sleep apnea or acid reflux. If you want a head-tilting adjustable bed that will give you some of the best sleep of your life, look no further than Sven & Son!

Amerisleep

Amerisleep is an American (of course!) company that was founded in 2010 with the goal of providing eco-friendly mattresses and other sleep products. Amerisleep has two popular models that you can read about in our Amerisleep adjustable beds review

Tempur-Pedic

Tempur-Pedic is an American mattress company that needs no introduction because it’s been around for so long. The company has some excellent unique adjustable bed bases (which they call “smart bases”) that you can learn more about in our Tempur-Pedic adjustable beds review

Features include:

This full-size bed has all the benefits of a high-quality adjustable bed, such as Zero-gravity reclining and relaxing multi-speed massage. What makes it a truly great choice for a full-size adjustable bed, though, is its head tilt feature and extended warranty.

The head-tilt feature is ideal for people with sleep apnea and acid reflux; it will let you sleep soundly through the night without being woken up multiple times. Plus, it’s an added layer of control you have over your sleeping position- you have even more ability to get it just right.

This bed also comes with an extended 5-year warranty. Most beds have some sort of warranty for parts and labor, but very few (if any) will cover five years of it! SinceClassic you’ll have your bed for a long time, that warranty is sure to give you added peace of mind should anything break down after a couple of years!

Pros and Cons:

Pros

  • 5 year extended warranty for parts and labor
  • Head-tilt feature
  • 3 different massage modes

Cons

  • No mattress included
  • Mattresses may slip when moving up/down

This product is a combination base and mattress that was designed by Blissful Nights to be their premium “all-in-one” model. It has the head tilt, massage, and other features you’d expect to see on an adjustable bed.

The biggest advantage of the Ananda, and other combo bed packages, is that you don’t have to worry about shopping for a mattress that suits your bed base. It takes a step out of the process and makes upgrading to a new adjustable bed simpler and faster!

This sleep system comes with a gel foam hybrid mattress, as opposed to the standard memory foam. This makes it a bit more firm and supportive than normal memory foam, and it regulates temperature much better.

One last great feature: you can choose to have it personally delivered and installed in your home (for an added fee). This is a great option for seniors who cannot install the bed themselves and don’t have extra hands around to help.

Pros and Cons:

Pros

  • Adjustable base and mattress in one
  • Optional expert delivery and installation
  • Medium-firm mattress is great for people who don’t like memory foam

Cons

  • Massaging options are very basic

Best Adjustable Twin XL Bed for Elderly (Overall): Classic Brands Comfort Twin XL Bed

Classic Brands Comfort Twin XL Bed

Features include:

Getting a twin bed is a great way to save space in a room and cut down on the cost of getting an adjustable bed. If you’ve had a larger bed for many years, but think that you won’t need a large bed anymore, consider downsizing to a Twin XL.

Classic Brands’ Comfort model is one of their most popular beds due to its affordability and overall quality. It does everything you need it to, except for head-tilt, and nothing that you don’t. If you’re looking for an affordable and functional adjustable bed, the Classic Brands Comfort is exactly what you’re looking for!

Pros and Cons:

Pros

  • Very affordable, one of the least expensive beds (that won’t break down immediately) on the market
  • Quality remote with several programmable position buttons
  • Compatible with almost any mattress brand; resists slipping

Cons

  • Legs can break easily
  • No head-tilt feature

Best Adjustable Twin XL Bed for Elderly (Runner-Up): Lucid L600 Adjustable Bed

LUCID L600 Adjustable Bed Base with LUCID 10 Inch Memory Foam Hybrid-Mattress - Twin XL

LUCID L600 Adjustable Bed Base

Width

37.5″

Length

79.5″

Height

15″

Weight

97 lbs

Features include:

This twin XL bed comes with a 10-inch hybrid foam mattress and a wireless remote loaded with presets and features. On top of that, it has three different massage modes (pulse, wave, and vibrate) that give you your choice of relaxing, tension-relieving pressure to help you sleep.

Another great feature of the L600 is the ability to download an app on your phone to control the bed. Why keep track of yet another device when you can simply have the bed remote on the phone or tablet that you use every day?

Lastly, the material that makes up the hybrid foam mattress does a great job of resisting odors and moisture. This makes the bed feel fresh and clean, even when you don’t have the chance to deep-clean it very often! All of these features combined make for a bed that relieves far more headaches than it creates!

Pros and Cons:

Pros

  • BlueTooth phone app can control the bed
  • 10-inch hybrid mattress resists odors and moisture
  • Lots of preset position options in the remote (TV, Zero-gravity, etc)

Cons

  • Legs are not height-adjustable

Best Adjustable Split King Bed for Elderly:

Reverie 9T Adjustable Bed Base

Reverie 9t Adjustable Bed Base, Wireless, Wall Hugger, High Definition Massage, Lumbar Support, Bluetooth, Zero Gravity, Anti-Snore, Alarm Timers, Split King

Reverie 9t Adjustable Bed Base

Width

80″

Length

76″

Height

15″

Weight

290 lbs

Features include:

The term “runner-up” might not apply to the Reverie 9T; it’s just as good a bed as the Leggett and Platt Prodigy, perhaps even better. The reason it didn’t take the “best overall” spot is that it costs almost $1,000 more and is therefore out of reach for some seniors’ budgets.

What do you get for the money? One of the most luxurious beds on the market. Of particular interest is the lumbar support. Most adjustable beds have a single joint that lifts the head portion- this bed has two. This lets the bed conform more to the shape of your body when reclining than any other bed; this feature will be important to people with lower back pain but valuable to all.

Finally, the massage options on this bed surpass those of any other on the list! You get multiple different massage modes and ten different intensity settings- for the head massage and the foot massage- on both sides of the bed! The cost is steep, but for those who choose to spend it, it’s well worth it!

Pros and Cons:

Pros

  • Optional expert delivery and installation
  • Lumbar support through premium base articulation
  • Superior massaging: 10 intensity settings, different modes

Cons

  • Extremely expensive
  • Remote sometimes loses signal at random

Blissful Nights e3 Adjustable Bed (King)

Width

Length

75.5″

Height

Weight

Features include:

This bed base delivers everything you need in a King-Size adjustable bed, and nothing that you don’t. It’s simple and durable, which is what makes it up to 50% cheaper than comparable bed bases from premium brands. You get premium quality and performance at a budget price- who could say no to that?

This adjustable bed is just as easy to set up as it is to use. In less than 30 minutes, this bed can go from the back of a delivery truck to right beneath you as you relax in the Zero Gravity position. It’s so easy to set up that, as long as you have a healthy back, you can do it all by yourself!

The E3 Adjustable Bed Base is missing some of the luxury features (head tilt and massage) that many people desire, so it isn’t for everyone. However, anyone trying to save money without sacrificing quality will love what this adjustable bed has to offer. Put it on your shopping list, and you won’t be disappointed!

Pros and Cons:

Pros

  • More affordable than most kind-size bases
  • Easy to set up and use
  • Long-lasting, motors come with a 10-year warranty

Cons

  • Long-lasting, motors come with a 10-year warranty

Best Split California King Adjustable Bed: iDeal Bed 4i Split California King Bed Base

iDealBed 4i Custom Adjustable Bed Base

Width

84″

Length

72″

Height

14″

Weight

79.8 lbs

Features include:

Welcome to the ultimate in luxury – the Split California King has roughly the same surface area as a studio apartment in New York, although it costs one-fourth as much as a month’s rent. That’s obviously a joke, but the hard truth about this bed base is that it’s one of the best on the market. It’s solid, dependable, and has whisper-quiet motors that control the head and foot sections of each side of the bed individually.

This mattress has full-body massage that can also be controlled individually on each side, so both people using the bed can enjoy a massage without disturbing the other. The massage has four different vibration modes and 3 intensity levels – you won’t be stuck with just one as you would be with a lesser base. If you want a bed that can help you take the edge off at the end of the day or soothe aches and pains in your back, this is the way to go.

This bed also has 4 different “one-touch” adjustment buttons: flat, Zero-Gravity, anti-snoring, and a customizable memory preset. No matter what your needs are from your Split California King bed, this bed base can meet them!

To make things even better, this base costs less than $1,500 – a nearly unheard-of price for a bed base this large!

Pros and Cons:

Pros

  • Great price for a Split California King
  • Massage and memory presets for each side
  • Excellent, whisper-quiet motors

Cons

  • Requires hard to find split California king mattresses
  • USB ports are hard to reach (under the bed, not on the side)

Best Adjustable Bed for Back Pain: Sven & Son Adjustable Bed with Dual Massage, King

Sven & Son King Adjustable Bed Base Frame 5 Minute Assembly, Head & Foot Articulation, USB Ports, Zero Gravity, Interactive Dual Massage, Wireless, Classic (King)

Sven & Son Adjustable Bed

Width

80″

Length

76″

Height

15″

Weight

190 lbs

Features include:

Split King beds aren’t very hard to find, but Split Queens are nearly impossible. The New Rooms Regent is one of the only adjustable bed bases on the market, and it’s a great one at that. Though it’s expensive, this bed base delivers everything you need and will last for years without breaking down or needing service/repairs.

It has 5 different “one-touch” buttons, including two different custom memory options. Whether you’re watching TV, sleeping in Zero-Gravity, or trying to stop your partner or spouse from snoring, this base’s simple and fully-featured remote has your back.

The only downside of this base is that it’s not a full split – only the head portions move separately. The foot portion of the bed moves as one unit; this makes it great for couples with a snorer, but not so much for couples who have drastically different sleep position needs.

Still, though, if you’ve got a split queen mattress, there is no better adjustable base than this one. If you don’t already have a split queen mattress, we recommend you grab the Natural Bliss Latex Split Queen Mattress. It’s soft, luxurious, and one of the only mattresses compatible with this bed base.

Pros and Cons:

Pros

  • Reasonable price for a King adjustable bed
  • Back and foot massage with 3 modes and 3 intensity settings
  • 5 “one-touch” adjustment buttons

Cons

  • Massage can be hard to feel under a thick mattress
  • Heavy, can be hard to set up alone

Best Adjustable Beds for Snoring: Mellow Genie 500 Adjustable Bed with Head Tilt

Snoring is very annoying for your partner and can contribute to grogginess and a lack of rest for you. It’s safe to say that it’s in everyone’s best interest for you to solve snoring as effectively as you can. If nose strips haven’t been cutting it, this adjustable bed base is the permanent solution you need.

Massner Nasal Strips for Snoring, Large 100 Pack - Extra Strength Anti Snoring Solution for Men, Women - Clears Air Way to Breathe Better - Sleep Right, Snore Less - Stuffy Nose Relief for Congestion

This adjustable bed has a “head tilt” feature that raises your head up to a 15-degree angle without lifting the rest of your body. That makes it much easier for you to breathe through your nose or mouth without constricted airways, solving snoring for good.

Finding a good adjustable bed with head tilt is easier said than done; it’s a premium feature that is hard to find on an affordable base. The queen size model of this bed, though, costs less than $500, making it perfect for anyone trying to solve their snoring without having to open a new credit card!

Pros and Cons:

Pros

  • Affordable for nearly any senior
  • One button to solve snoring for good
  • Solid warranty

Cons

  • Not for heavy users

Buying Guide: What To Know About Adjustable Beds

How Does an Adjustable Bed Work?

Adjustable beds are made by fixing a series of motors and levers to different flat panels called joints. The motors raise and lower each joint of the bed when the user presses a button on the remote. These beds and motors are very strong; some of them have a weight capacity of more than 1,000 pounds.

The best adjustable beds have very quiet motors that smoothly and gently transition you from relaxing to sleeping. Many adjustable beds also have massage motors that are separate from the motors that lift and lower the bed. The massage motors vibrate gently to provide a soothing, tension-relieving massage to help seniors wind down at the end of the day.

What is the Price Range for Adjustable Beds?

Adjustable beds vary pretty widely in terms of price. If you want a bare-bones model (that won’t break down on you right out of the box) you can expect to spend about $600 for the mattress and base. (Make to sure look at adjustable beds on Amazon for the best prices.)

If you’re more of a big-budget shopper, the most expensive adjustable beds can set you back up to $5,000 to get a top-of-the-line base and mattress! Most people, though, will spend between $1,200 and $2,000 to get their adjustable bed.

Will Medicare Cover the Cost of an Adjustable Bed?

Medicare will pay up to 80% of the cost of what they call Durable Medical Equipment (DME). Currently, adjustable beds are considered to be DME and can be covered by Medicare. However, this does not mean that you can simply ask them to buy you a bed, or buy one and have it reimbursed.

To get an adjustable bed covered by Medicare, it must be prescribed by a doctor. This means you need to be evaluated by a doctor who deems an adjustable bed to be medically necessary. This isn’t overly difficult, but it does limit the number of seniors who can have their adjustable bed covered by Medicare.

Tips for Finding the Best Adjustable Beds for Seniors (For Every Need)

  • What Size Do I Need?

If you’ve slept on a large Queen or King-sized bed but no longer share it with a partner, you might want to downsize a bit to save space and money in your room. On the other hand, if you are a taller person, getting a larger size will prevent your feet from hanging off the edge when in tv mode. Getting the right size will help you get the most out of your new adjustable bed!

  • What Mattress is Best?

Getting a memory foam or hybrid mattress is necessary for adjustable beds; traditional innerspring mattresses cannot bend with the bed base. If you like softness and don’t mind heat retention, memory foam mattresses are right for you. If you are a hot sleeper or prefer a firmer mattress, get a hybrid model that will support you and regulate temperature!

  • Premium Features

Wall-hugging and head-tilt adjustable beds are much more expensive, so they aren’t right for everyone. If you need these features, though, make sure your choice of bed offers it before you buy. These premium features are well worth the expense for people who need to maximize the space in their rooms or treat acid reflux/sleep apnea.

  • Mattress Thickness

Generally, the thicker the mattress, the more comfort (and expense). If you’re getting a memory foam mattress, make sure it’s at least 8 inches thick- preferably, 12 inches. Hybrid mattresses, on the other hand, don’t need to be quite as thick because they have coils on the inside the provide lots of support. No matter what, though, the last thing you want is a mattress that isn’t thick enough to stop your body from hitting the base of the bed beneath it!

  • Accessories

Keep in mind that there are many adjustable bed accessories that you can purchase to complement your bed, including different types of adjustable bed mattresses, headboards, bed rails, skirts, support legs, and more!

Conclusion

The best adjustable beds are the ones that improve your sleep and therefore your quality of life. There are many different beds to choose from, so it’s important to understand the different types, the most trusted brands, and the features that you need (and the ones you don’t). 1. Well written, as usual. However I would like more information on adjustable beds which can be delivered and serviced. Many (I think most) seniors can not carry a heavy package from their porch or up stairs and would have trouble with assembly of a complex, heavy bed frame. You do not review brick and mortar store available beds.
Also, in listing mattresses which can be used on adjustable frames you do not mention latex mattresses. I would think those would work on an adjustable frame as well, or better than, memory foam (hot/soft) or hybrids.
