Free Wheelchairs & Assistive Devices in Georgia

1. ALS Association of Georgia 

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association logo

The ALS Association is a 501(c)3 charitable organization and the only nationally affiliated not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to ALS. The Georgia Chapter loans medical equipment to patients to assist in daily living. The program loans equipment such as a lifting device, wheelchair or communication device that can make a significant difference to the family caregiver as well as the ALS patient. The equipment, training and delivery are all provided free of charge.

2. Assistive Technology Financing 

Center for financial independence and innovation empower people with disabilities to become financially independent and secure. Their products provide paths to better credit and access to the necessary technologies that a person with a disability needs to be independent.

Credit-Able is the alternative financing program for Georgians with disabilities to acquire assistive technology. With reasonable interest rates and terms that are flexible, CFII is here to provide financial access to needed technologies.

First $tep provides small loans to establish a positive credit history, or to rebuild credit after acquiring a disability. The First $TEP program provides a small loan that can be used for escaping a predatory lender, getting technology or personal matters.

3. Angel Flight Soars

Angel Flight SoarsTM arranges free air transportation for people who need to travel to receive lifesaving medical treatment, but lack the means. They coordinate 9 missions a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

4. disABILITY LINK 

disABILITY LINK is an organization led by and for people with disabilities and promotes choice and full participation in community life. They welcome donations of durable medical equipment and other technology and items that are in good working condition for redistribution to people in need.

If you are in need of a specific item please call in or e-mail so they can begin the process of loaning/donating an item or finding an alternate avenue for acquiring the needed equipment.

5. Friends of Disabled Adults and Children

Friends of Disabled Adults and Children have medical supplies and items of all types—from standers and wheelchairs to Hoyer lifts and hospital beds. Families and organizations donate their new and used medical equipment, and the volunteer-run repair shop cleans, refurbishes and matches the equipment to the specs of the new user.

Medical Equipment items are provided on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you are in need of a specific type of medical equipment, please call to check availability.

6. Tools for Life

Tools for Life, Georgia’s Assistive Technology Act Program, is dedicated to increasing access to and acquisition of assistive technology (AT) devices and services for Georgians of all ages and disabilities so they can live, learn, work and play independently and with greater freedom in communities of their choice.

8. Walton Options 

Walton Options is a local point of contact with Friends of Disabled Adults and Children. They help consumers gain access to the equipment they may need because they are uninsured or under-insured. The equipment is generally used equipment that has been donated to the program which is then cleaned, inspected, and made available.
