In June of 2006 Commissioners Court authorized CSD to be the Administrator of all non-infrastructure Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Transit funds.
The Transportation Division of CSD has obtained consent from the Metropolitan Planning Organization and Harris County METRO to become an additional Federal Transportation Administration recipient of FTA Section 5307 funds. This action was the first step in the process to obtain up to $4.5 million a year in Federal Grant funds to provide transportation alternatives for residents of Harris County who do not have any transit service. The Office of Transit Services (Harris County Transit) was created by Harris County CSD to begin implementing transit projects.
In October 2007 Harris County Transit partnered with the City of Baytown and Houston METRO to launch a successful Park and Ride program from Baytown to the Downtown Business District. This was followed in July 2008 with the creation of a fixed route service in the City of Baytown that exceeded all ridership expectations. In January 2010 fixed bus route service began operating in the cities of La Porte and Pasadena. All programs are dependent on receiving commitments for local share funding to support federal funding requests.

In 1971, Truth House, a volunteer-based effort to serve teenagers at risk of drug involvement was started in Farmers Branch and grew to include crisis intervention and information & referral services.

By 1977, with increased local community support and a solid volunteer base, the agency sought stable funding and a fulltime staff by joining forces with the existing Carrollton Community Chest and securing affiliation with the United Way on March 21, 1977.
The agency resulting from this merger was renamed the Northwest Dallas County Service Center and chartered to provide services including information and referral services, professional counseling and emergency assistance.
In 1978, service to senior adults was made possible through funding from grants and resulted in the creation of the Office on Aging. These senior services eventually developed to a point that the agency separated from Northwest Dallas County Service Center in 1982 to operate independently as the Office on Aging.
In 1984, following the official designation of Northwest Dallas County Service Center’s area of service, the name was changed to Metrocrest Service Center, Inc. In 1989, the Metrocrest Thrift Store was established to provide client families free clothing and furniture and, through retail sales to the public, serve as a revenue source to fund aid programs provided by the agency.
Since 1990, the focus of Metrocrest Social Services has been on providing comprehensive services to help families move toward self-sufficiency and avoid homelessness by offering a wide range of services including Employment Assistance Program, professional counseling and a Food Pantry.
Meanwhile, in 1995 the Office on Aging was renamed Senior Adult Services with a service area of Addison, Carrollton, Coppell and Farmers Branch. Their popular transportation service grew and in 2001 the agency obtained its first lift equipped bus to accommodate the needs of local seniors.
For a period of time Senior Adult Services and Metrocrest Social Services both operated out of the city of Carrollton's Gravley Center until relocating to separate locations in 2009 and 2011 respectively.
On August 1st of 2013, Senior Adult Services and Metrocrest Social Services merged operations. Under the direction of a new Board of Directors, vital services for senior adults continue as do the established financial aid services for famiies and individuals at the reorganized agency. The merged agency was renamed Metrocrest Services in February 2014.

Drive a Senior ATX was born out of West Austin Caregivers. A community-based volunteer service through Austin Metropolitan Ministries that was supported by 17 congregations in West Austin.

The purpose of the program was to respond to the needs of the increasing number of seniors who were living alone and who could no longer drive.
From the beginning, West Austin Caregivers was well received by the elder clients, their families, and volunteers. As word of these services spread this caregiver model was replicated in other areas of the city.
North West Austin, North Central Austin, North East Austin, and South Austin developed independent programs followed by Pflugerville, Round Rock, Georgetown and eventually South West Austin and Elgin.
Representatives of supporting congregations govern and operate the individual groups. West Austin Caregivers has been a member of the American Society on Aging and the National Council on Aging from which it receives information about the changing national trends affecting older adults.
As West Austin Caregivers has evolved it changed its name to Drive a Senior West Austin to align with other caregiver groups and to reflect more closely its primary service. In 2020, Drive a Senior West Austin merged with Drive a Senior North Central to form Drive a Senior Austin (DAS ATX). The two agencies had functioned separately for over 30 years with very similar cultures and philosophies.
As senior transportation needs are rapidly growing it is felt that one large organization can do a better job at expanding our services to meet the needs of all Austin aging adults. We are stronger together!
